Happy Birthday, B!

Once upon a time…a friend I've known forever…married one of my best friends.
A year ago, they had Baby B. She is only the cutest baby in the world~
And they lived happily ever after!

Happy 1st Birthday.
You are a gift from God.
May His light shine on you.

Brooke's First Birthday

God acts on the prayers of His children in the context of His sovereignty. He does what is right for His people and His purposes. He is an attentive God. Brooke, your life is a constant reminder of this. You've grown so much (photos from last year)!!! And for all those who have come together to love you and pray for you…we've been blessed because we've witnessed God's mighty hand~ Happy 1st Birthday…LOVE YOU!!!

We will always remember you, Brookey.
Our God is Sovereign. His Providence reminds me that our days are numbered. And death…like life…is not random. God desires for us to know him in his eternal plans. He is good…and this is a truth. And though there are things we may never understand in this lifetime…God is still good. One thing I know for sure…God chose the best family for you, Brooke. He gave you laughter and joy…a mom and dad whose love for God stands out among the crowds…and sisters who could pray and love on you because they have been so loved. We will miss you, forever.

Happy Birthday | Lavender & Peach Korean First Birthday | Details

I wanted to throw a small, intimate backyard birthday dinner for Alex. Just family...especially since she can be somewhat of an introvert at times. As I was planning I envisioned lights, lavenders, and lots of love for the night's ambiance. :) This was completely different from what we did for Brady and the trends of a Korean First Birthday (aka-dol). But sometimes the unconventional is conventional~ Without further ado...from lavenders to peaches...here is a part 1 post to Alex's First Birthday!

Dear Alex...
You are Beautiful
For you are Fearfully
And Wonderfully made.
Psalm 139:14

And just a few words to share the party in detail:

It was actually a front yard birthday party! Alex's head table is adorned with homegrown lavenders, fresh peaches, a flower arrangement, and her Dol Goim/Towers. The back drop is a pipe & drape stand with oversized wreaths made out coffee filters! Vases and props were all...of course...thrifted!

Dol Towers were made from paper towel rolls covered in burlap and accented with a decorative lace.

I used coffee beans to spell out the words in Korean.

Though peaches are not a traditional fruit that would be at the head table for a Dol...I couldn't resist how the gradient peach colors complimented the lavenders. And also, Alex loves to eat peaches!

Potted plants from Trader Joes.
String lights from Target.

Did you know lavenders can act as an insect repellent? The strong scent of lavender can keep mosquitoes & flies away. Hurray! The truth is...this birthday was influenced by my fear of the inevitable: flies!!! So I went out and planted a row of lavenders...learned to prune...then placed them just about everywhere!!...in hopes to keep my guests happy! And, it worked!

Cake by Audrey. Always.

Hand-dipped letter A's~ Made by my new crafting buddy...Brady! We stayed up a couple of nights lathering the wooden letter with glue...then dipping them in dry lavender buds. It was a fun and easy craft for my 2-year-old.

ALEX - I bought white wooden letters at the local craft store and glued a feathery lace around each one.

A "Make Your Own Ice Cream" Stand...inspired by my high school chemistry class! Go Brahmas! ;)

Trader Joe's Steel Cut Oatmeal. I only used the container...Oatmeal, anyone???

My evening project for about a month...Handmade Lavender Oatmeal Soap!
